Climate change is no longer just a forecast or a scientific hypothesis. The consequences of human activity make their impact on the Earth and it is changing.
How can we, as a business or individual, help? How do we become a member of 1% for the Planet? What opportunities does the membership of the organization give us?
In 2002 two businessman – Patagonia’s founder Yvon Chouinard and Blue Ribbon Flies’ owner – Craig Mathews, established 1% for the Planet – a global network of companies which donate 1% of their annual income back to the environment.
The collected funds are directed to various non-governmental organizations that fight against pollution of forests, oceans and rivers, protect the land and seek ways of sustainable development of agriculture and energy. The idea is simple: because companies profit from the resources they take from the earth, they should protect those resources and give back to the Blue planet. Today, the organization has more than 1800 members from over 45 countries. Since its beginning, 1% for the Planet has certified more than $200 million in support to approved environmental nonprofits.
