Dress up with recycled materials with Patagonia

The world famous American company Patagonia, popular with the production of apparel and sportswear of high quality and recycled materials, started their business in 1953 as a small company making climbing tools. Over the years, the company has built a strong philosophy based on the love of nature and our Blue Planet. Patagonia makes it clear that reducing greenhouse gas emissions, protecting clean water and air and getting rid of dirty technologies are what businesses should strive for. The company has a strong social position and commitment to climate change and the damage that people are doing to the earth and using the means at its disposal - business, investment and imagination - to do something about it.

In 2018 US President Donald Trump announced his plan to halve the territory of Utah’s two National Parks - Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante. Patagonia started a lawsuit against the president. Again in 2018 eastern Europe is fighting to preserve Europe's last wild rivers. Patagonia took a stand behind the activists and started its "Save the Blue Heart of Europe" campaign, part of which is the feature film "Blue Heart".

Patagonia donates time, services and at least 1% of its sales to help hundreds of organizations around the world stay vigilant and protect what is irreplaceable.

As the climate crisis deepens, the company sees potential in the production of clothing that requires fewer resources, throws away less material and protects people's health.

The materials the company uses:

Recycled down

Patagonia has successfully spread the use of Recycled Down - fabric, duck and geese, pillows, bedding and other used items that cannot be resold. Demand for high-quality, recycled fluff leads to increased supply and enhances recycling in even more countries. Their main mission is to build the best product without causing unnecessary damage.

Recycled polyester

Later, in 1993, Patagonia began to produce recycled polyester from plastic soda bottles. This makes it the first outsourced company that turns trash into a fleece - a positive step towards a more sustainable system. The use of recycled polyester reduces our dependence on oil, thus reducing toxic emissions from burns.

Recycled Wool

Wool production requires huge amounts of land for sheep grazing. In addition, it requires energy, water and chemicals to turn the wave into fleece. One way to reduce the impact of its production is to recycle used wool. The practice of wool recycling dates back hundreds of years. The wool goes through a thorough sorting of materials into color categories before crushing. Choosing and blending colors of dyed woolen fabrics and garments completely eliminates the dyeing process, saving water and chemicals and eliminating wastewater generated.

Hemp

Hemp is a natural fiber that is cultivated with low environmental impact. Does not require pesticides, synthetic fertilizers or GMO seeds. Hemp cultivation improves soil health through the supply of vital nutrients and the prevention of erosion. It is one of the most durable natural fibers on the planet and creates flax-like tissue.

Organic cotton

In 1996, Patagonia began the exclusive use of organic cotton in all its cotton products and decided never to return to conventional cotton, regardless of the result. This is organic cotton grown without harmful chemicals. Its yield is high and the quality of cotton is equal to or better than that conventionally grown cotton. Its cultivation methods maintain biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, improve soil quality and often use less water. Organic farming takes more time, requires more knowledge and skills. But it's worth it!

Recycled nylon

Like polyester, nylon fibers are made from oil. For over 20 years, Patagonia has been replacing non-recycled polyester for recycled versions, only in the last five have it begun to build their own recycled nylon. Part of the recycled nylon the company uses comes from post-industrial waste fibers, yarn collected from a factory mill, and waste from weaving mills that can be recycled into nylon reusable fibers. Another recycled nylon fiber they are experimenting with was recreated by discarded industrial fishing nets.

Patagonia creates clothes for freedom, adventure and long life. Quality means longer use, more moments with the clothes we love, and most importantly, less damage from production to our Blue Planet. "The more you know, the less you need.", Yv. Chounard, Let my people go surfing.
